At Full Speed #9 by Chris T. Kat

They ate breakfast in companionable silence. Jake leaned back in the booth, patting his stomach after finishing his meal. “That was really good.”

Bruce’s eyes crinkled. “It looked like you were enjoying yourself. I’m glad you liked breakfast.”

“I’m stuffed.” Jake grinned. When the waitress came by to collect their plates, she topped off their coffees. Jake’s good mood deflated as he considered what he’d promised Bruce earlier. How could he have been so foolish to say he’d talk about what happened— andthe reason why he was so skittish around Bruce—without the aid of alcohol?

“Hey Jake, breathe, okay?”

Love Across Time: Chapter 40 by Jim Dunaway

I thought I knew everyone who worked for the TPC. I don’t recognize this man at all the head Magistrate thought. “Who are you and what is your business here?

Not knowing how to address the head Magistrate, Ethan thought better safe than sorry. “Your Honor, my name is Ethan Evans.” A low murmur broke out among those witnessing the proceedings. Everyone in the Timeline Preservation Commission knew that name, but few had ever met him.

“I am here to plead on behalf of Ryan Edwards,” he began.

“Your name is not unknown to us. You are from the past.”

Aesthetics of Invention: Part 22 by Ravon Silvius

Thorn’s heart began to pound, his blood buzzing in his ears even as the realization hit him, despair replacing the shock.

George had seen them both at the fair. He had seen them at the mess hall, after Thorn had placed his bag back in his room.

Surely he wouldn’t. It was petty, stupid, something only the most mean-spirited person would do. A boy at the orphanage had been like that, angry and vengeful to the other children. Thorn had never learned why.

“Thorn, what…” Kenneth moved in front of him, his robes swishing as he stalked toward the door.  The metal hinges creaked as he pushed it open further. George hadn’t completely broken it, at least. It would be an easy fix.

“The little automaton…” Kenneth’s voice wavered.

Love Across Time: Chapter 36 by Jim Dunaway

“TIMELINE ALTERATION! TIMELINE ALTERATION! COLIN EDWARDS REPORT TO TIMELINE CONTROL.” the computer blared throughout the building.

Ryan’s cousin, Colin, slapped the Alarm Cancel button with one hand and the Emergency Reverse button with the other. Duncan raced into the control room, “What the hell was that?” He demanded.

“I don’t know,” Colin answered. “Just as I got here Ryan and Ethan were materializing in travellator 2. I hit the Emergency Reverse button to send them back. Let me take a look at the timeline monitor and logs to see if I can figure out what happened.”

Double Trouble: Chapter 27by Jon Keys

The early spring sunshine felt good against Josh’s bare skin. The slight heat warmed his skin and chased the last of the winter chill from his system. He stretched his arms above his head and grinned to see Trent coming around the corner as bare chested as he was. But Trent didn’t have to be as careful about sunburn with his darker complexion. He pushed the wheelbarrow beside the garden they were about to tackle. Trent glanced up, caught his eye and grinned.
“What are you up to?”

Let me in, Chapter 2 – By Carol Pedroso

Cade was getting frustrated. He wanted to get to know Louis but the little witch always seemed to disappear before he could talk to him.

He had felt a shock go through him when he touched the man and the scent of him stirred something in him, he wanted to explore those feelings. But first he needed to get Louis to stay in the same room as him for more than a few seconds. Ideally he wanted to get Louis alone, but he would settle for Louis just not running away.

***

He sighed as he hung up the phone.

Boys of Belsmeade: Chapter 23 by Kazy Reed

Fumaro raced through the woods, crossing the neutral territory and onto the Belanni estate. When he reached the house, he forced the door open and let it slam against the wall, shattering a vase that sat on the entry table.

Lilianna Becker hurried out from the living room, rage painting her face, but when she saw the vampire, she gasped. The viscount passed by without a word and kicked in the door to Becker’s study. Becker shot to his feet. “Corleanni! What the hell—”

Fumaro’s eyes went black and he hissed. “Listen to me!”

In Enemy Hands:  #3.3 by; M.A. Church

He vigorously petted the big feline. The animal dropped back down on four paws and rubbed against Adlar’s leg. Several years ago, Adlar had found a juvenile batar abandoned by its mother. It might’ve survived on its own, if it was lucky. Instead of luck, the cub had been hunted by something bigger than itself.

The encounter left the batar with the scar down its face. Adlar spent a month in the jungle playing nursemaid to the feline, trying to get it healthy without taming it. He’d succeeded. The batar remained close to Adlar, even establishing its territory near Adlar’s home.

 “What have you found, boy?”

Double Trouble: Chapter 20 by Jon Keys

“I do not want to go to that place!” Danny said.
Trent tried to keep calm. “Danny, you have to go. It’ll be fun. You’ll learn stuff and find new friends.”
“Will not be fun. I know it won’t be fun. Everything that’s fun is here at home.”
“And everything will still be here in a few hours. Then you can have fun stuff at home, and fun stuff at school.”
Danny wiped a tear of frustration from his eye. “Did you go to school? Was it fun?”

Fortitude: Part Six by Cia Nordwell

“You kept me up all night,” I complained. Teddy was yawning and griping about the lack of hot chocolate while I packed the tent.

Teddy flushed crimson, his fair skin turning beet red. “I was scared,” he mumbled.

I might have complained more, but having Teddy clinging to me had been pleasant, even if I was exhausted. “Well, the sun is up so that bird-like thing shouldn’t be around. We need to keep going, if we’re going to find the codex.” I’d keep my eyes peeled out for our wildman, though. I had a feeling he was close.

“Which way
