Demon: Chapter Forty Two by Nephy Hart

I think to tell him he is wrong, that our bonding is complete save for the ritual to be performed by my father, then I realize I am the one who is wrong. We no longer need the ritual.

Breathing deeply, drawing in his scent that I can smell even here. I hold him to me, his back against my front. His head is fallen back on my shoulder and his beautiful eyes, filled with love and fire gaze at me with an expression that is so open it makes me want to cry. I know that he is wholly mine; that I might do anything to him now, to the point of killing him, and he would let me. I know this for sure, because I am his, and even should he drive a dagger through my heart I would bless him with my dying breath.

I heard Liz and her client’s footsteps disappear into the back and the door close to Liz’s workspace.

I took a sip of coffee and through about the previous two years since we had graduated and opened the shop. We weren’t millionaires but we weren’t scraping for cash either. We’d had very few complaints, no particularly difficult customers that we felt we’d need to drop as customers, and most importantly; referrals were growing our client base fairly quickly. We had informally talked about bringing on another therapist or two to help manage the workload.

Daniel sighed when the door opened to admit Kevin again. He’d thought he would get longer to regroup and think up a new set of plans. But, that’s life. He was about to make some comment when another man joined Kevin.

The hair was different and the face was thinner, but those eyes. He would never forget those eyes.

“You,” Daniel snarled.

“Yes, me,” the man drawled. “I believe we have unfinished business, Silas.”

Daniel froze then flicked a glance at Kevin. One look at the man’s sickly expression and, yep, Daniel realized the old man had once again gotten them mixed up.

When they entered their bedroom, they found that Roy had laid out their best suits. Come to think of it, Roy was dressed in his, although he hadn’t noticed before, too caught up in trying to figure out what was going on.

Marshall and Lee looked at one another and then at Roy.  “Um, I’ll just wait for you out here,” he said and quickly disappeared.

“What in tarnation do you think’s going on?” Marshall asked.

“I have an idea,” Lee said, “but I don’t wanna say, just in case I’m wrong.
