Danny stepped out of the hot gymnasium with his arm intertwined with Rob’s. The evening air was a blast of cold after having spent the last several hours. He felt like a wrung out dish cloth after the dancing. He and Rob had no problem sharing, especially with some of the fast dances they’d been practicing with Trent’s help. His skills had impressed Danny, and he appreciated how easy it had been to recruit him into given them lessons. It had been a rough start, although Trent had been good about keeping everything casual and loose. A few weeks before the prom Danny and Rob were polished enough he invited his sister and Levi to join them.

Breakfast at Milly’s Diner was a quiet affair. Dustin thought Roy seemed to be lost in thought. Probably figuring out what the hell to do about Dustin. What little conversation they had was mostly small talk about the weather.  Dustin thought maybe that was discretion on the sheriff’s part, since apparently he was involved in some kind of ongoing investigation regarding Tucker Falls. Who knew?

And when had he stopped thinking of him as the Sheriff and started calling him Roy? Dustin didn’t know, and he decided not to analyze that too closely. He was always reading into things. That’s how he got into the trouble he did. Didn’t need to start anything new, he was already in enough deep shit as it was.

Danny stood in front of the mirror, shifting first one way and then another. His boots had a polish that reflected light across their black surface. He’d spent the better part of an hour cleaning them until they looked new, coating them with ebony polish then working until the final results pleased him. He had put almost as much effort into the jeans he wore. This time Trent rescued him and offered to have Danny’s Wranglers starched. As a result, his jeans were stiff as a board and a professional crease ran down the length of his leg.

Dustin’s desire to hug Roy was just an impulse, but one which he obeyed without giving it any thought. Much the same way he lived most of his life. Act first, think later. He’d been so focused on explaining to Roy what he was doing at his house in the middle of the night that it somehow escaped his notice that the man had answered the door in his birthday suit.

A fact he was growing increasingly aware of now that he had his arms wrapped around him.

Roy’s skin, beneath Dustin’s fingers, was surprisingly soft, and warm. He had an inexplicable desire to run his hands up and down Roy’s back, maybe head a little farther south, squeeze that generous ass.

Dustin felt sick to his stomach at the thought of what he’d so stupidly just done. Made himself an accomplice to a burglary, even if an unwitting one. Try explaining that to a judge. Everything was becoming all too clear to him now, especially what an idiot he’d been to believe someone like Jordan could be interested in someone like him. It hadn’t been him, it had been the computer store where he worked that had been the big attraction all along. If they’d run into each other anywhere else, Jordan would probably not have given Dustin the time of day. That’s what he got for thinking with his dick.

Mitch heard the now familiar sound of Cody’s wheelchair coming down the hallway. He smiled but didn’t stop packing even when he knew Cody had stopped at the doorway to his bedroom. Well, it felt like his after essentially living in it for the last month. It was a decent room and Gordy and Sam had been fantastic hosts. They had met the friends test—they hadn’t threatened to shot him.

At least that’s what Darrin had told him. But his husband was skilled at telling him the unvarnished truth. A few days earlier, he’d gotten that lecture. Like many times when Darrin shared more opinion than Mitch really wanted, it had pissed him off… at first. But after he had thought about it, Mitch had to agree with Darrin’s assessment.

Friend or Foe? by Avery Dawes

Henry trudged down to the stream. Two empty buckets dangled from his calloused fingers. These hot, humid summer days would be the death of him. Despite the weather, chores on his farmette didn’t cease.

He crossed the last bit of farmland taking a well-worn path through the trees to the stream. As he entered the shade, he breathed a sigh of relief. Henry dropped the buckets before he plopped on the ground. He shucked his shoes and socks then rolled up his pant legs. Sliding closer to the stream, he dangled his feet in the cool water. Ah, heaven!

“C’mere, baby.” Jordan patted the seat beside him invitingly. Dustin didn’t need to be told twice. He gave the lunkheads their beers, set Jordan’s on the table next to him, then parked his ass on the indicated spot.

A few moments passed without conversation  as they all took appreciative drinks of the cold beer.

“You know something,” Rusty said, breaking the silence. “I’m thinking about getting another tattoo.”

That produced a snort from Lenny. “Where you gonna get it, your dick?” he snarked.

Dustin raised a groggy head and eyed the alarm clock on Jordan’s side of the bed through slitted eyes, then lay back down. Still early. He didn’t have to be at work for hours. He could spend more time with Jordan.  Maybe even go another round before he had to take a shower and get dressed.

Ever since they started dating, Dustin spent more nights at Jordan’s place than he did at home. Every time he talked about going back to the apartment he shared with Denver, Jordan would turn big puppy dog eyes on him, and his lower lip would quiver slightly… and then there were his hands. Jordan had the most amazing touch, and he seemed to like to touch Dustin whenever and wherever possible.
