Two Girls and Some Ghouls: Part II by Avery Dawes

Last week, Private Mansfield politely asked if I could find out what became of his wife and young son after the war. I sensed the emotion behind his strong façade and gave him props for not shedding any ghost tears. Using the dates and locations he gave me, I thought I might have a chance at finding what had become of his family so it didn’t take much convincing for me to help him. His story had touched an unexpected nerve. He and his wife were newlyweds when he left to fight for Virginia. They’d gotten married once she found

Here Kitty Kitty: Chapter 7.3 by Carol Pedroso

“When can we go home?” “I want to go back to grandma’s house.” “I’m tired.”

The kits had been wonderful but the constant traveling was wearing on all of them and the kits most of all. Simon felt Kitryn tense and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Deep breath,” he muttered and received a tight smile.

Meg had moved to walk with the kits and she could be heard explaining once again why they couldn’t return to her house.

Simon looked at the sky. “We need to find shelter soon.” Kitryn nodded and they started checking the sides of the path

The Faery of Beacon Lake: Part 9 by Nephy Hart

At the stroke of midnight, Owen was pacing the banks of the lake. He checked his watch for the hundredth time to find time crawling so slowly it might have been going backwards. The light of the phone was harsh in darkness lit only by an occasional glimmer of a pale moon, as it dodged between clouds. He’d almost broken his neck a half-dozen times on the path over the mountain. He’d almost turned back a dozen more, but here he was, phone in hand, watching the numbers march onward to his doom.

The Sheriff #57 (13.5) by Julie Lynn Hayes

Roy’s life had taken a complete one-eighty—and he couldn’t be happier about it. He’d begun to think he would never find someone to love, to have what Lee and Marshall had. And then, out of nowhere, when he wasn’t looking, it happened.  The trouble was he’d been searching for Miss Right all this time when it was actually Mr. Right, in the guise of Dustin Johnson.  If someone had suggested to Roy just a few months ago that he could fall in love with a man, he’d have laughed and said that wasn’t him, not that he had anything against the idea of two men being together. And yet just look at him now. He was with another man, and loving it.

He guessed the right person made all the difference, and gender didn’t really matter.

Slapout: Chapter 07 by Jon Keys
Gage stumbled into the kitchen, lifted a coffee cup from the dish drainer and poured himself a cup of the strong brew he and Ben setup every night so it would be ready when they woke the next morning. The aroma of coffee curled around him as he filled his cup with the dark liquid. He mixed in the sugar and cream he liked until the drink matched the color of milk chocolate.
He lifted the cup and sipped at the steaming liquid. The heat washed down his throat and infused through him along with caffeine. Gage revealed in the sensation with his eyes half closed. He walked toward Alec with the intent of waking him for breakfast. As he reached down, he couldn’t help but see the dried remains of his orgasm.

Slapout: Chapter 06 by Jon Keys
The sun had disappeared behind the western horizon and the first of the cicada began their nightly chorus. After downing more than his share of handcrafted beers, plus a few of Ben’s concoctions, Alec felt the effects of his evening. He’d stayed until late playing cards and by then he was far too drunk to make it home. Eli and Cullen had left hours before, leaving the trio to deal with each other.
Ben put away the deck of cards and studied Alec before beginning to chuckle when Alec rose on wobbly legs. “You ain’t going nowhere. You’re completely shit faced.”

Here Kitty Kitty: Chapter 5.1 by Carol Pedroso

“I’m tired. When can we take a nap?”

“I’m hungry. Can I have a snack?”

“I want to stop now.”

“Are we nearly there yet?”

Kitryn gritted his teeth to stop himself snapping at the whining kits. It wasn’t their faults that they’d had to move so fast and so far.

He shrugged his shoulders to get a blanket wrapped Simon into a more comfortable position. He was glad that Simon had refused his offer of blood earlier in the day.

They’d only been able to hunt a few times and had only caught several small rabbits.

Denied: Chapter Sixteen by Cia Nordwell

“Are you sure, Cohen?” Captain stood in the corridor outside my door. I was dressed in a pair of loose pants and a short-sleeve shirt. The air outside my room was colder, so I shivered again.

“Yes.” Okay, so maybe part of the shivers were from what I was about to do. I reached for the jacket that I’d been given that would identify me as part of the maintenance crew. I could put my strength to use.

“You’ve met with Luca and Priella. You’ll be on their crew. I’ve been assured they’re both great teachers.”

I nodded. My heart

The Faery of Beacon Lake: Part 3 by Nephy Hart

Hours later, close to midnight, Owen scrambled down the path toward the lake. A low moon lit his path but leeched colour from the world, turning it blue and silver. Owen shivered and pulled his coat closer around his throat. It was late summer but already the nights were turning cold. He clutched the parcel he was holding tight against his chest. He was by no means convinced that the “gift” Aggie had provided would bring anything but scornful laughter, but she’d never let him down before. Three nights, she’d told him. “Three nights. Three gifts. Then we’ll see.”

Run Through the Jungle (a Lost fanfic) by Julie Lynn Hayes

The billboard was one of the largest Hurley had ever seen, dominating the California landscape, eclipsing even the huge letters that spelled out Hollywood.

Wait, what was going on here? And who was the woman whose face loomed larger than life? Did he know her?

The suspicious-looking sign with the glandular condition began to shimmer, the woman’s face going in and out of focus, disappearing just as recognition began to wash over Hurley. He knew he’d seen her before, and he had a feeling he liked her. But now her image had been replaced. By numbers. Very familiar numbers.

  1. 8. 15. 16. 23. 42
