“Abby, what’s wrong?” Ryan asked. His question was immediately echoed by Ben, who was already moving toward the distraught girl. Ryan quickly followed in his wake.

Abby seemed surprised to see them. Maybe she’d assumed everyone was in bed by now.  She swiped at her cheeks, but said nothing. Ryan thought he heard her sniffle. Maybe she was trying to pull herself together before she said anything.   Or maybe she just didn’t want them to know what was going on. When she did speak, it was in her usual calm voice.

Tales of the Cabin – Part 1 by Johayan

It was another mindless day in the cube farm. At most other companies, I’d have an office.  Not a corner suite, but an office none the less.  As I looked at my schedule for the rest of the week, all I saw was meeting after meeting.  I was glad I was going on vacation in a couple of weeks.

While I enjoy my job, it’s not the most intellectually stimulating job.  The only excitement was the breaking news that someone had purchased a winning lottery ticket at the convenience store in the lobby.

Ben didn’t say anything as they trudged across the yard, so Ryan didn’t break the silence. He couldn’t read Ben’s mood, and he didn’t want to say anything potentially upsetting. This day already contained too many ups and downs for his liking, and he wasn’t sure where he stood, to be honest. But that’s what life was about, wasn’t it? Wasn’t this what he wanted, to actually live? To do more than exist? To become the writer he was sure he could be? Then he’d have to accept that not everything would be pleasant. Life wasn’t all about rainbows and unicorns and happiness, the bad happened too and you learned to deal with it.

Wow, how intense was that?

At least he was with Ben again, and that’s what really mattered. The rest could be handled.

Simon came awake with a start. What had he been dreaming about? Whatever it was had left him with a feeling of dread. He shook off the feeling and stretched.

He headed out to the main room and found Kitryn reading a book by the fire with the kits playing around his feet.

“You okay?” Kitryn asked when he looked up.

“Yeah, just a weird dream. I can’t even remember what it was about, just the feeling it left behind when I woke up.”

The Faery of Beacon Lake: Part 18 by Nephy Hart

The smell of bacon greeted them as they descended the stairs. The usual sounds of Aggie making breakfast soothed Owen. They were comfortingly family and just what Owen needed. It wasn’t that he regretted what he’d done, at least not at that moment, but it was a heck of an adjustment and he hadn’t quite made it yet. He needed grounding and Aggie was just the person for the job. She glanced up as they entered the kitchen.

“You need to go shopping,” she said shortly, then turned to poke at the bacon and sausages that hissed and spat in her big, cast iron pan.

“Sure. We’ll take a walk down to town after breakfast. What do you need?” Owen poured himself a coffee from the already boiled kettle.

“Not me. Your husband. He needs clothes.”

In Pieces #15 (5.3) by Julie Lynn Hayes

Ryan had never heard a sound quite so glorious in his entire life.  The single note was plaintive and yet intense. As Ben’s voice began to rise in tone, the sound flowed around him and through him. It seemed to penetrate into the depths of Ryan’s soul, to places that had been untouched for a very long time. He couldn’t explain the feeling, but neither did he attempt to fight it. Rather, he embraced it.

He couldn’t keep from staring at Ben as he sang. Ben’s eyes had closed, an expression of utter serenity suffusing his face. Ryan thought he looked almost like an angelic choir boy.  Paradoxically, the single note was sensuous and enticing, producing an almost palpable ache inside of Ryan which was a far cry from angelic.

Bran turned and pushed Owen gently onto his back. “I want to see your button,” he said, then proceeded to stroke his long fingers across Owen’s stomach, dipping into his belly button. “I love it.”

Owen moaned when Bran replaced his fingers with his tongue and lapped gently at the dimple. He stroked Bran’s hair, fighting the temptation to push his head a little lower.

Sweet Betrayal Part Two by Michael Mandrake

After three human months of staying out of human sight, I felt it time to introduce my new lover to the world. I’d made a spot for him as CFO of the company and found a new position for the current one elsewhere. Aaron knew everything about this job and would be able to perform it affectively. It was time for a change anyway because his predecessor and I hadn’t seen things eye to eye as of late.

“Lover.” As I walked out of my office after sending notice to all my other presidents about the change in my company, I called Aaron.

“Yes, Ravi?”

Hearing the new alto tone in his voice brought a smile to my face. Not that it hadn’t before, but becoming a vampire made Aaron even a hundred times more attractive.

I ambled into our bedroom, watching my lover dress in a three-piece blue suit with matching tie. His lighter eyes met my gaze and he flashed a toothy grin. “How do I look?”

“Amazing.” I strode over to him, wrapping both arms around his waist. I pressed a light kiss to his cheek. “This blue is a good contrast to your eyes. The suit fits you so well, I wish to tear it off you.”

“What are you doing?” Captain finally looked down and seemed to realize that I was opening his uniform.

I tugged on the open edges of his jacket. “Come on.” I pulled him into the other room. The bunk was made—I had no idea when he found time to do that—but I was about to destroy the tightly tucked blankets. Gently, I pushed him down.

“Give us a minute,” I said to the crew member who looked up when the door started to whoosh shut. His eyebrows rose, but before he could say anything the door was closed.
