Jason was finally gone and the farm settled into mid-spring. Trent was busy from sunrise to sunset with preparations for the spring planting. Sandy suddenly found himself in charge of a fence building team to cordon off the winter wheat section that Claire had meant to fertilize. Trent couldn’t use that acreage for anything during the warm season so it was decided to fence it off and make it an extra pasture for the summer.

The rest of the farm was moving on from the drama. Colin had his hands full turning the farm into a full live-in facility…

The staff and guests of the Hamilton Arms milled about outside of the hotel, congregating in groups as they speculated as to what was going on inside. A light drizzle had begun to fall, which only added to everyone’s discomfort at being unceremoniously rousted in the middle of the night. Emergency vehicles were already onsite, their flashing lights adding an eerie glow to the scene.

As late as it was, most businesses had closed for the night. Passing traffic was sparse. Even so, vehicles slowed to gawk before moving on.

Trent kept driving towards Flat River but was just meandering towards it. He didn’t have a specific destination in mind. His mind was replaying the earlier conversation with Sandy over and over.
