Sleeping in felt nice, especially after the rough time they’d gone through the night before. After Brandon’s precipitate departure, the band had gone on to play their last set. Ryan kept a careful eye on the door, in case Brandon came back, although what he would have done if he had he didn’t know, but there was no sign of the asshole. Everything went well, the crowd loved Salvation, and they ended the evening on a positive note. After they finished and packed up the van, the owner, Clete, had invited them for a drink. Not wanting to be rude to someone who’d given them the chance to play, they spent a few minutes talking to him before they finally left. Clete had nothing but nice things to say about them, and he told them they were welcome to come back to his place and play any time. Carl slammed into his rooms and froze. He hadn’t thought of what to do once they were back.
“Are you going to let me down or stand here staring at the couch all afternoon?” Tristan’s muffled voice demanded.
Carl shook himself and slowly lowered Tristan to his feet. And if he allowed a bit more full body contact than was necessary well who could blame him?
Tristan straightened his clothes, crossed his arms and glared. “I supposed you think your clever carting me off so we don’t have to do any of the clean up? So, you have me alone again.
We all turned to Captain. He blinked, opened his mouth, then shut it. Aparoe snorted. “For someone so eloquent just a little bit ago, you sure lost it. Sir.” The sarcasm of that added sir wasn’t lost on anyone. “Let’s go find a planet that doesn’t have a ring of satellites and settle there. Eventually all this furor will settle down.”
“They will hunt us.”
“I have my recordings. Deke has his weapons and whatever he’ll come up with while you play at retirement. You’ll come up with a plan, and we’ll take down whatever fools think they can use
