Greetings all!
It’s Sunday morning and I’m propped up in bed with my ever-faithful laptop, coffee in hand, with even a glass of juice poured as well!
Life has been beyond hectic of late and I can’t say how many times I’ve wished for more hours in the day, or that my poor old bod wouldn’t scream at me, demanding sleep. It’s not convinced that there’ll be time enough for sleep when I’m pushing up daisies…
Anyways… I’m finally able to spare an hour to put together a little something to share with you all.
Firstly, HEART KNOT MINE will be going on a blog tour commencing 02 June, 2014. The tour has been organised by Pump Up Your Book and there will lots of fun stops with interviews, excerpts, prizes, and more – I’ll post dates and stops soon.
Secondly, I will be at the UK GLBT Fiction Meet being held at Bristol from 6 – 8 June, 2014, so please come up and say hi if you are attending. While there, I will be joining a few other authors in doing a reading of part of HEART KNOT MINE’S opening scene and discussing opening scenes in general. LOL, bear with me if my voice shakes!
Now, some fun stuff!
Here’s a never before seen excerpt from HEART KNOT MINE.
Hope you enjoy!
HEART KNOT MINE
SUMMARY
Despite a successful college teaching career, Noah Daniels has become depressed. He feels he’s leading a monochromatic life: love has eluded him. When he’s offered a chance to teach in London as part of an exchange program, he accepts, hoping a change of scenery will do him good. But once he’s there, his outlook on love and sexuality changes in ways he never expected.
Robert Callinan is Noah’s English counterpart in the program. The men exchange not only their jobs, but also their homes, and it is what Noah stumbles across while staying at Robert’s house that sends him on a journey of self-discovery—both mentally and physically. A journey that puts color back into his life… just not in the way he expected. When the exchange program ends, Noah has to go home, but he doesn’t know if he wants to return to the life he left behind.
EXCERPT CHAPTER FOUR
London, I decided, was conspiring against me.
Not only was there a Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition, but also a Lucien Freud one that focused on his male nude portraits. Not that Freud’s male nudes were sexually appealing to me, or erotic in the way the black-and-white photographs by Mapplethorpe were—it just felt as if everywhere I turned I was confronted with male genitalia. A fact not helped by my mind, which was proving as traitorous as my body.
I suppose I could have walked out of the exhibitions and gone and visited London Tower or some other historic landmark. London, after all, was filled with history. But did I? No, of course not. Instead, I studied each and every photographic print and painting, telling myself I was studying the brush strokes, use of color, composition, and lighting, but in truth, I was comparing every single image I stood before with Robert.
And not just their cocks.
I was a little taken aback at how much I’d actually noticed. Like, looking at one of Mapplethorpe’s self-portraits made me picture Robert’s lips, which even in repose seemed to be puckered, waiting to be kissed. Or the way one of the prints showing a smooth-skinned, bare-chested torso made me think about the sparse hairs Robert had surrounding his nipples and the barely there, almost invisible triangle of it between his pecs. And then there was that thin line of fuzz that trailed from his belly button down to where it met up with the trimmed rectangle of his pubic hair….

Lily Velden lives on the east coast of Australia, her family having emigrated from Holland when she was a child.
She’s both a left and right brain person, holding qualifications in both Finance and Fine Arts. She tells her friends that her way with numbers will make her a profitable artist and writer… one day.
Lily has always had a love of language and a beautifully crafted sentence, often incorporating text into her artworks. When a shoulder injury slowed down her art practice she decided to explore her love of the written word more fully. “I’ll paint my pictures with words.”
Not that she’s abandoned artmaking in its entirety—Lily designs the cover art for all her books.
There are many things Lily loves, here are just a few of the PG rated ones: a good laugh (all the better if caused by a naughty joke), the smell of freshly baked goods and mown grass, a smile from a stranger, rainbows after the rain, and witnessing a promise kept.
